About myself

Hardworking junior chemical engineering student that has depth of knowledge on multiple software and eager to learn and take on challenges using past presentations and internship experiences.
I am a junior who is currently studying chemical engineering with a minor in mathematics who lives in Thailand from Taiwan, but I am an American citizen from Longmeadow MA which is why I choose to come study here because my aunt studied (Smiths college) here and recommended me university of Massachusetts Amherst.

Education:
University of Massachusetts Amherst Bachelors of Science in Chemical Engineering, GPA 3.0, anticipated graduation date May 2024. Minor in mathematics.
Bangkok Patana School: IB diploma and IGCSE.
Relevant Courses:
Math modelling, Chemical engineering in biological systems, Thermodynamics I/II, Differential equations, Calc I/II/III, Organic chemistry 1/2/lab. Currently doing: Fluid mechanics, Physical chemistry, Linear algebra and Kinetics.
Academic Projects:
Math modelling COVID-19 project (Spring 2022)
- Worked in a team of 3 to model susceptible, infected, death and recovered rates of COVID-19 over a set period of time for various countries (US, China, France) using a SIRD model on MATLAB.
- Consolidated findings into a 55-page report including an introduction, methods, code, discussion, results and conclusion.
Chemical engineering in biological systems research project. (Fall 2021)
Worked in a team of 5 to investigate the creation and uses for the artificial pancreas through literature review of 5 research papers.
Consolidated findings into a 10-page report and PowerPoint presentations for professor and peers.
Organic chemistry lab (Spring 2022)
- Performed technique experiments to learn how to perform common chemical processes like distillation, acid-base extraction, recrystallization, chromatography and finding melting points of compounds.
- Conducted synthetic experiments to perform chemical reactions and purifying products
- Wrote professional lab reports including the experimental procedure for a scientific audience
Skills:
Microsoft office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word), MATLAB, Lab work (TLC, recrystallization, chromatography, solubility tests, distillation), Proficient in Chinese.
Work experience:
CP lighting Intern in Bangkok (Fall 2018)
- Utilized excel to ensure that all computer parts were properly catalogued to make sure that all items were accepted by the vendors.
- Translated documents and PowerPoints from English to Chinese and vice-versa to ensure that everyone can understand it.
Engineering Intern for Delta electronics in Bangkok (Summer 2022)
- Corrected mistakes on classifications on materials in the MDS system to make sure the system accepts the new materials.
- Classified computer parts and placed them into the system to send them off to the vendors when they are fully accepted by the system.
Activities and interests:
Habitat for Humanity event’s organizer; Volleyball and Basketball playing and coaching, Volunteer work during the Thai floods and COVID-19.
Awards:
90+ Percentile for IGCSE Chinese and Math, ABRSM grade 5 violin and piano, Junior math challenge and senior math challenge silver award.
Interests
Volleyball, Basketball, reading, watching tv shows and playing videogames.
Freshmen year
Paper: I wrote a paper about damming in the Mekong river and the effects it has on the environment and if it has actually impacted the environment in a positive or negative way.
Presentation: As a team of 5 we presented on salicylic acid on how it was made in the form of a process diagram, how much it costed ,and the industrial uses for salicylic acid.
Sophomore year
Group project: Worked as a group of 5 and presented on the artificial pancreas and went into detail on how it was made, the uses for it, and the problems/issues on the artificial pancreas. After the presentation we created a 10 page scientific report on the artificial pancreas that went into further detail.
Group project: Worked as a team of 3 and created a 55 page report including a code about modelling a COVID curve using a SIRD diagram so we could estimate that the amount of people that would be susceptible to COVID, dead to COVID and recovered from COVID for a short period of time in the future for 3 countries (China, France and USA).
Organic Chemistry lab: Worked in a lab for organic chemistry and conducted synthetic experiments to write a scientific report for a scientific report that included the methodology of the experiment.
Junior year
Paper: Wrote a 5 page scientific paper on van der Waals forces on how they are formed, how to model the energy of the force itself and how the expression to calculate the “ideal” length of van der Waals forces is found and modelled for different atoms.
Internships
Delta electronics engineering intern: Was an intern for delta electronics in Bangkok Thailand and I worked on the MDS system by making sure the materials within the system was classified properly before and accepted by the system before sending off the blueprint to the vendors.
Intern for CP lighting: Used excel to make sure the computer parts were catalogued properly and were accepted by vendors. Secondly, translated documents from English to Chinese and vice versa to make sure both sides of the party understood by the customers.
My opinions on my development
In my opinion I have developed as a person from the three years I have been in university. I feel like I have gained more confidence in talking other people and asking for help and leaving my comfort zone. Secondly, I feel like I have gained more independence because now I can do a lot more tasks by myself without having to ask for help as often. I also think I am learning to be more organized so I can finish tasks on time without having to ask for extensions.
